What the Extension actually is
Golf Course Extension Road, or Southern Peripheral Road on the older maps, is a 12km stretch that runs south from Sector 55-56 (where the original Golf Course Road ends) down through Sectors 61 through 79 to the Sohna Road junction. This is Gurugram's newest residential corridor, developed in bursts since about 2015. The road is wide and fast — six lanes with underpasses — but its context is still half-built. You will pass finished towers, half-finished towers, hoardings for the next project and empty lots waiting for one.
The catchment includes M3M, Emaar, Ireo, Tata and Godrej developments. Retail is thin: a few standalone malls (Omaxe Celebration, Airia, AIPL Joy Street), some markets serving the residential clusters, and the odd cluster of restaurants around Sector 66. There is no metro on this road yet — the Rapid Metro terminates at Sector 55-56 — so a car is essentially mandatory. That single fact defines whether this address works for you.
Who the Extension suits
Long-stay corporate visitors on 30-plus night engagements who want a modern serviced apartment at ₹8082-₹12361 a night rather than a hotel. Business travellers whose meetings are specifically in the Sector 65-72 corridor — a growing back-office and R&D cluster with tenants including HCL, Deloitte technology teams and several fintech operations. Domestic visitors on wedding trips staying in one of the many banquet-and-hotel complexes along the road, of which there are now dozens.
Also relocators. If you are moving to Gurugram and don’t yet know which sector you’ll end up in, a month at Saltstayz Premier Golf Course Extension Road or Citadines Paras Square gives you a base to house-hunt from. The Extension is central to the newer residential belt and equidistant from GCR and Sohna Road, which makes it a sensible temporary posting.
Who it doesn’t suit
Anyone without a car, or unwilling to book Ubers for every trip. There is no metro, buses are unreliable, and the sector layout means even short trips cross multiple slip roads. A typical dinner outing involves a 10-minute cab each way. Tourists on a short Gurugram trip — nothing on the Extension is a sight and the ambient environment (dust, construction, sparse pavements) is not what you booked flights to India to see.
Solo travellers on their first India trip. The residential cluster feel is disorienting, the pavements peter out, and the walking geography breaks down after 500 metres. If Gurugram is your first Indian city, base yourself somewhere denser — MG Road, Sushant Lok, DLF Phase 1 — and take day trips out here only if a meeting demands it.
What a night costs
Citadines Paras Square Gurugram is the flagship at ₹12361-₹19018 a night for a studio, more for a one-bedroom. Saltstayz Premier Golf Course Extension Road runs ₹8082-₹13312. Sunday Hotel & Residences by CheckIn Gurugram sits at ₹10460-₹16165. Holiday Inn Gurugram Sector 90 (technically further south but often marketed as Extension) holds ₹10460-₹15214. Luxurious Residences by Sunday at M3M Broadway Sector 71 is ₹12361-₹18067 for a serviced apartment.
On the entry level, RJK Sector 49 Residency Near Huda Metro Station and Hotel Omega Gurgaon Central Sec 45 run ₹4754-₹8082. This puts the Extension roughly ₹2853-₹4754 a night below GCR proper and ₹1902-₹3804 above Sohna Road, at similar quality. For long stays past two weeks the serviced apartments become the obvious choice — with a kitchen, washer and cleaning, they undercut hotel rates by 30-40% on a total-cost basis.
What is within walking distance
Very little. Airia Mall in Sector 68 has a supermarket, a food court and a few restaurants — walkable from three or four residential clusters. AIPL Joy Street in Sector 66 is a strip-mall dining destination with 15-odd restaurants including local outlets of Barbeque Nation and Chaayos. Beyond those two pockets, the walking geography is broken by construction sites, unfinished pavements and the road itself, which is engineered for cars.
This is the honest weakness of the Extension. Compared to Cyber City's Cyber Hub or GCR's Two Horizon Centre, there is no walkable dinner cluster. Everything is a cab ride, even the 'nearby' place. Grocery deliveries via Blinkit and Zepto work well and are heavily used by residents — you’ll see the couriers everywhere. For a long stay, ordering in is genuinely the norm, not the fallback.
Extension versus Golf Course Road proper
GCR proper is more walkable, has the Rapid Metro, and holds higher-tier hotels — Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Trident. It is also 20-30% more expensive per night at equivalent quality. If your budget is ₹19018-plus and you value walkability, book GCR. If your budget is ₹9509-₹14263 and you have a car, the Extension gives you newer buildings, larger rooms, and easier hotel forecourts.
The other calculation: airport access. GCR proper is 35-45 minutes from IGI; the Extension is 45-60 minutes and further at rush hour because you rejoin GCR before hitting NH-48. For a trip with multiple airport runs — early flights, late arrivals — GCR proper is meaningfully more convenient. For a settled long stay with a single arrival and single departure, the Extension's cheaper nightly rate wins on total spend.
The honest verdict
The Extension makes sense for long stays, corporate relocators, and anyone whose meetings sit in the Sector 65-75 cluster. Citadines Paras Square and Saltstayz Premier are the pragmatic picks; Sunday Hotel & Residences works if you want a hotel with serviced-apartment features; Holiday Inn Gurugram Sector 90 covers the standard business trip.
Skip the Extension if you don’t have a car, if you want to walk to dinner, or if you are here for fewer than five nights. The rate saving over GCR is real but not enormous, and short trips lose more time in cab logistics than they save on the room. Long stays are where the numbers actually work, and where the Extension quietly becomes the smartest address in Gurugram at its price point.

The main road is well-lit and patrolled, and residential clusters are gated with 24-hour security. The weak point is the space between clusters — dark stretches with construction on both sides. Don’t walk between sectors after 9pm; use a cab even for 500-metre hops. Female solo travellers report the environment feels quieter and more exposed than GCR proper.
45-60 minutes off-peak, 75-90 minutes at rush hour. Add 15-20 minutes versus GCR proper because you rejoin GCR before reaching NH-48. Book cabs 45 minutes earlier than you would from Cyber City. Most Extension hotels arrange fixed-fare airport taxis at ₹2092-₹3043 depending on time of day.
A handful of clusters: AIPL Joy Street in Sector 66 has 15-plus outlets including Barbeque Nation and Chaayos; Airia Mall in Sector 68 has a food court and a few standalone restaurants; scattered along the road you’ll find Punjab Grill, Barbecue Nation and mid-range chains. Nothing here matches Cyber Hub, but delivery apps cover the gap for evenings in.
A Phase 4 extension of the Delhi Metro Yellow Line was approved for the corridor, with stations projected for Sector 61, 68 and along the road. Construction is ongoing but no station on the Extension is expected to open before 2027-28. For a 2026 stay, plan without metro access.
