What DLF Phase 1 actually is
DLF Phase 1 is the original DLF development, launched in 1981, and it looks it — low-rise houses on numbered blocks, mature neem and gulmohar trees, a genuine grid of quiet lanes rather than the arterial-plus-condominium format of the newer phases. The Galleria market at its centre, opened in 1998, is one of the oldest continuously operating retail strips in Gurugram and still trades in the same three-storey format it started with.
It sits directly east of MG Road, bounded by Sikanderpur metro to the north and Golf Course Road to the south. Hotel inventory in Phase 1 is limited — this is genuinely residential — but there are boutique conversions, service apartments, and a handful of small business hotels tucked into the C-Block and E-Block edges. Staying here is a different Gurugram experience from any of the arterials.
Who it suits
Return visitors who have decided they like Gurugram enough to want to sleep somewhere that predates the tower boom. Consultants on multi-week rotations for whom a serviced apartment beats a chain hotel and who want quiet residential streets rather than a highway view. Anyone visiting friends who live in the DLF Phases and wants to be walkable to them.
It also suits food-focused travellers. The Galleria market has been the food address of old Gurugram for 20 years — Diggin, Café Delhi Heights, Nagaland Kitchen, Cross Border Kitchens, Depaul's — and the small strip between the market and the DLF Phase 1 blocks has more independent restaurants per square metre than any other Gurugram address. Staying in Phase 1 means you walk to dinner.
Who it does not suit
Travellers who want a hotel with a full-service pool, spa and 200-room scale. That inventory does not exist in Phase 1 — the largest properties are around 60 rooms and most are 20-40. Also not for airport red-eyes — the drive to Terminal 3 is 15 km through MG Road traffic and adds 10 minutes to what would be a faster run from Cyber City.
Not for first-time visitors either. Phase 1's charm is legibility — recognising that this is where Gurugram started — and if you have never seen the corporate side of Gurugram first, the residential quiet will just feel like nothing is happening. See Cyber City on day one, then decide whether Phase 1 is your kind of address for the rest of the trip.
What a night costs
Phase 1 hotel pricing is unusual because the inventory is small and boutique. Serviced apartments run ₹4754-₹8558 a night for a one-bedroom with kitchen, small business hotels sit ₹7132-₹11411, and the handful of upscale boutique conversions cap around ₹14263. There is essentially nothing above that price ceiling in the phase — you cannot spend ₹19018 a night here even if you want to.
Value works out favourably. For ₹9033 a night in Phase 1 you get a serviced apartment with a full kitchen; for the same money on Golf Course Road you get a slightly-below-average four-star room. If you plan to eat in even once, or to stay more than three nights, the Phase 1 kitchen pays for itself.
What is within walking distance
Galleria market, obviously, with its 30-plus restaurants and cafés. The DLF Phase 1 shopping complex on the eastern edge has a Modern Bazaar, a wine shop, two chemists open until 11pm, and a well-known Depaul's outlet for cold-coffee-and-sandwich lunches. Sikanderpur metro is a 10-15 minute walk from most Phase 1 blocks, which gives you both the Delhi yellow line and the Rapid Metro into Cyber City.
Cyber Hub is a 5-minute cab or 15-minute Rapid Metro trip via Sikanderpur — closer in transport time than most Cyber City hotels are to Delhi. That connection is what makes Phase 1 quietly work as a hotel base: quiet neighbourhood texture with rapid access to the corporate zone when you need it.
Phase 1 versus Phase 2
Phase 1 and Phase 2 sit next to each other and get confused constantly. Phase 1 is the older, quieter, Galleria-adjacent block; Phase 2 is closer to Cyber City on the northern edge and has more corporate hotel inventory. Phase 1 for atmosphere; Phase 2 for corporate signal and walk-to-Cyber-Hub convenience. The two neighbourhoods share a metro but feel materially different.
Prices in Phase 2 run 20-30% higher for equivalent room product because of the Cyber City walkability. If your primary reason for being in Gurugram is Cyber City work, Phase 2 makes sense; if you are here for anything else — leisure, extended stay, non-corporate business — Phase 1 wins on value and quiet.
The serviced apartment case
Phase 1 has more serviced apartment inventory than any other Gurugram neighbourhood by a wide margin, largely because the original 1980s housing stock converts naturally into one and two-bedroom units. For stays of five nights or more, the serviced apartment product beats a chain hotel on cost, on kitchen access and on space, though it trades off on the room-service and lobby amenities you would get from a chain.
Book only operators who have been in Phase 1 for at least three years — the market has seen new entrants come and go, and stability of housekeeping and maintenance matters more in a small operation. Sight-check on arrival and be willing to change apartments if the specific unit is not what was advertised. For longer stays the format is genuinely superior.
How I would decide
Book DLF Phase 1 if you want a Gurugram stay that feels residential rather than corporate, and specifically if you are on a stay of four nights or more where a serviced apartment starts making sense. Book it if food matters — the Galleria market is one of the honest reasons to be in Gurugram at all. Book it if you have Cyber City meetings but do not want to sleep in Cyber City itself.
Do not book Phase 1 if you want a full-service hotel product with a pool and a gym and a room-service kitchen open until 2am — that is not what the neighbourhood offers, and you will spend the whole stay comparing to what you would have got on Golf Course Road. Get the format right and Phase 1 rewards you; get it wrong and it disappoints.

DLF City is the umbrella name for all five DLF phases together. Phase 1 is specifically the original 1981 development around Galleria market. When a hotel lists itself as being in DLF City, verify which phase — the five phases are geographically distinct and offer different experiences.
By cab, 20-30 minutes to Terminal 3 in off-peak traffic and 45-55 minutes in the morning rush, going out via MG Road and NH-48. There is no direct metro to Terminal 3 that beats a cab. Pre-book a car for anything before 6am; street-hail Ubers can be scarce at that hour on residential blocks.
Just about, if you enjoy walking — it is around 3 km through Phase 2 and across the NH-48 service road, taking 40-45 minutes and not scenic. Most guests take the Rapid Metro from Sikanderpur instead, which does the same trip in 10 minutes including the walk to the station.
