What Golf Course Extension Road actually is
Golf Course Extension Road, known locally as SPR or just Extension, runs south from the Sector 55 end of Golf Course Road for about 12 km through Sectors 61-70 and eventually joins the Sohna Elevated Road. It is the newest premium residential corridor in Gurugram, developed largely between 2015 and 2024, and it is still visibly under construction — cranes, boarded plots, half-finished retail podiums are the standard streetscape.
The hotels here are almost all under five years old, which means the rooms are new, the wifi works, and the pools have not yet cracked. What is missing is the ecosystem: mature restaurants, walkable retail, the layered infrastructure that makes Golf Course Road proper feel settled. Everything here is either a cab ride or a mall visit.
Who it suits
Business travellers with meetings in the newer corporate campuses along the corridor — the JMD Megapolis, the M3M cluster, the Emaar Palm Springs office plaza. Anyone visiting the DLF Phase 5 residential belt or the Sushant Lok 2 and 3 extensions. Value-conscious travellers who want a five-star room at four-star money and will accept the trade-off in atmosphere.
It also suits repeat visitors who already know Gurugram, know they are going to eat every meal in a mall or order in anyway, and want a newer, quieter room 20 minutes further south than the crowded northern corridors. If you have done Cyber City twice and did not love it, Extension is a reasonable pivot.
Who it does not suit
First-time visitors. You will underestimate how isolated the corridor feels once your cab drops you at the hotel, and you will overestimate how easy it is to get out again on a Saturday night. The absence of metro is the killer — there is no rail link the whole length of Extension, and every trip north or east starts with a 10-15 minute cab.
Anyone doing Delhi as a day trip. Adding 15-20 minutes to the front and back of every Delhi outing turns an already long journey into a bad one. And anyone who wanted Gurugram to feel like a city; Extension does not, and pretending otherwise on arrival is how disappointment starts.
What a night costs
Extension is where the value case for premium Gurugram lives. Five-star rooms run ₹10935-₹15689 on weeknights, roughly 25-30% below the equivalent property on Golf Course Road proper, and the four-star mid-market has more inventory here than on the original road — rooms at ₹7132-₹9984 are realistic and honest.
Weekend rates do drop, unlike Golf Course Road, because the weekend leisure demand from Delhi has not yet developed for Extension the way it has for the older corridor. A Saturday-night walk-in at 6pm in a Sector 65 five-star can land 20% under the weekday rate, which is unusual for premium Gurugram.
What is within walking distance
Honestly, not much. The M3M Urbana retail podium at Sector 67 has around 30 outlets including a Starbucks and a couple of casual dining chains, and Omaxe Celebration Mall at Sohna Road end covers grocery and a cinema. Beyond those two nodes, walkable retail is patchy — you will find a chemist and an ATM, but you will not stumble on a good restaurant.
The Aravalli Biodiversity Park at Sector 52, a 10-minute cab north, is genuinely worth an early-morning visit — 380 acres of restored scrub forest with marked walking trails and a birdlife that includes peacocks and Indian rollers. Do that before breakfast on day two and you will have found the one nature experience Gurugram actually delivers on.
The transport problem in detail
Extension has no metro station along its full 12 km length, and the plans for the extension of the Rapid Metro southward have been in discussion since 2016 without breaking ground. That means every outing off the corridor — Delhi, the airport, Cyber City, MG Road — starts with a cab of 15-40 minutes just to reach the point where your journey would have started from Golf Course Road.
Cab availability is fine — Uber and Ola both operate reliably here and surge is milder than at Cyber Hub — but the cumulative time cost adds up. Over a four-night stay you will spend an extra 3-4 hours in cars compared to a base at Sikanderpur. Weigh that against the room-rate saving before booking.
Extension versus Sohna Road
Extension and Sohna Road are natural competitors — both are secondary corridors, both trade on being cheaper than the premium spine, both have new hotel inventory. Extension is closer to Golf Course Road proper and skews premium; Sohna Road runs southeast into denser mixed-use development and skews mid-market. Extension has the newer buildings; Sohna Road has more restaurants and shops within walking distance of its hotels.
For business travellers with meetings in the DLF southern campuses, Extension wins on drive time. For leisure travellers who want to feel like they are staying somewhere with a pulse rather than a construction site, Sohna Road wins on street life. Choose by the priority that decides.
How I would decide
Book Extension if the specific hotel you want happens to be on it and the price is 20% or more below the Golf Course Road proper equivalent. Book it if you have meetings in the newer campuses and the drive time north to Cyber City makes no sense. Book it if you have already done Gurugram and want a quieter room.
Do not book Extension as your default premium address on a first Gurugram visit — Golf Course Road proper delivers the same quality of hotel in a much better neighbourhood, and the ₹2853-₹3804 a night you save on Extension is smaller than the cost of the extra cabs you will end up taking. Get the geography right first, then optimise on price.

No. They are two different roads that share part of a name and connect at Sector 55/56. Golf Course Road is the original 7 km spine with mature retail and metro; Extension is the newer 12 km southward continuation that is still under construction. Confirm which one your hotel is on before booking.
About 22 km via Sohna Elevated Road and NH-48, running 40-50 minutes off-peak and 70-80 minutes in the morning rush. That is 15-20 minutes further than Cyber City to Terminal 3. Factor it into airline schedules if you have a tight morning departure.
Very little that would qualify as a scene. The M3M Urbana podium has a couple of casual lounges and the hotel bars stay open until 1am, but there is nothing resembling Sector 29 or Cyber Hub. Cab north to Sector 29 for a proper night out — it is a 20-minute ride.
The Rapid Metro Phase 2 extension has been proposed since 2016 and remains in planning. There is no confirmed construction timeline as of early 2026, so do not book on the assumption that a station will open during your stay or in the next two years.
