About Orchha
Founded in the 16th century by Rudra Pratap Singh, Orchha served as the capital of the Bundelkhand region. Key landmarks include the Jahangir Mahal, a palace built to commemorate the visit of Mughal Emperor Jahangir, and the Raj Mahal, with its intricate murals. The Chaturbhuj Temple and the Ram Raja Temple are important religious sites, with the latter being the only temple in India where Lord Rama is worshipped as a king. The cenotaphs (chhatris) along the Betwa River are particularly striking at sunset.
Orchha's compact size makes it easy to explore on foot or by bicycle, with most attractions within walking distance of each other. The town's atmosphere is peaceful, offering a contrast to busier tourist destinations. Visitors can also enjoy boat rides on the Betwa River and explore the nearby Orchha Wildlife Sanctuary.
