4- and 5-star hotels in Goa Velha
This shortlist covers the 4- and 5-star hotels in Goa Velha, from private-pool villas in Arpora and Vagator to a riverside island resort. It is for travellers who want a quiet heritage base with a high-standard place to stay.
Staying in Goa Velha
Goa Velha, or Old Goa, is the historic town that was once the capital of Portuguese India, and it is known for its UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Basilica of Bom Jesus and the Se Cathedral. It is quieter and less commercial than the coastal resorts, so a stay here suits visitors who want heritage sites, traditions and a calmer base.
The addresses of these hotels spread well beyond the old town itself. Several sit around Arpora and Baga, others near Calangute, Candolim, Vagator, Parra, Moira, Siolim and Mapusa, and one is on Divar Island outside Panaji. That makes the list handy for couples and groups who want a private villa with a pool, and for families who need space and family rooms. Business travellers are best served by the larger resort, while short-break visitors can pick a property within a few kilometres of the centre.
