About Diu
Diu's landscape is flat and arid, with palm trees and salt pans. The island is divided into three main areas: Diu Town, with the fort and old quarters; Nagoa Beach, a popular resort area; and Ghoghla, near the entrance to the island. The town is small enough to explore in a day or two, but many visitors stay longer to enjoy the beaches and the unhurried pace. Unlike neighbouring Gujarat, alcohol is permitted in Diu, which adds to its appeal for some travellers.
The main attractions include the Diu Fort, St. Paul's Church, St. Thomas Church, and the Naida Caves. The Diu Museum, housed in St. Thomas Church, displays artefacts from the Portuguese era. The Panikota Fort, also known as Fortim do Mar, stands in the sea and is accessible by a narrow causeway. The beach at Nagoa offers water sports, while Chakratirth and Gomtimata beaches are quieter.
