Daman Ganga Riverfront. Along the Daman Ganga River, several resorts offer river views and easy access to the Vanganga Lake Garden. This area is quieter than the city centre but still close to the main road.

Khanvel. About 20 kilometres east of Silvassa, Khanvel is a small town on the banks of the Daman Ganga River, surrounded by forested hills. It is known for its resorts and the nearby Satmaliya Deer Park.

Getting there and around

Silvassa is well connected by road. The nearest major city is Vapi in Gujarat, about 30 kilometres away, which has a railway station on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad line. From Vapi, taxis and buses take around 45 minutes to Silvassa. The nearest airports are Mumbai (about 180 kilometres) and Surat (about 150 kilometres). Within Silvassa, auto-rickshaws and taxis are available, but for visiting nearby attractions like Khanvel or the Tribal Cultural Museum, hiring a car or taking a bus is common. The city is small and walkable in parts, but many resorts are spread out, so having your own transport or arranging a taxi is useful.

When to go

The best time to visit Silvassa is from October to March, when the weather is dry and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from mild to warm. This period is ideal for exploring the gardens, parks, and tribal villages. The monsoon months from June to September bring heavy rainfall, which turns the landscape lush but can disrupt travel. April and May are hot and humid, with temperatures often exceeding 35°C. Many festivals, such as the Warli tribal festivals and the Portuguese-era Christian celebrations, take place between November and February.
