About Madurai
Madurai is also a gateway to southern Tamil Nadu, with good rail and air links. The city has a busy, lived-in feel, and its food scene is famous for idli, dosa and Chettinad-style dishes. Visitors come for the temple, the Gandhi Memorial Museum, and the Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal, a 17th-century palace. The city is compact enough to explore in a few days, but its layers of history reward a slower pace.
