About Jodhpur

The old city is encircled by a 10-kilometre wall with eight gates, and at its heart lies the Sardar Market with its clock tower. The blue houses, originally painted to denote Brahmin homes, now cover much of the old town and give Jodhpur its nickname, the Blue City. Other landmarks include the Jaswant Thada, a marble cenotaph; the Umaid Bhawan Palace, a working royal residence and hotel; and the Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park, which showcases the region's arid ecology.

Jodhpur's climate is arid, with hot summers and mild winters. The city is well connected by air, rail, and road, making it a common stop on Rajasthan itineraries. Visitors come for the architecture, the history, and the desert landscape, and many use it as a base to explore nearby villages and the Thar Desert.
