Gandhi Chowk and Sadar Bazaar. The area around Gandhi Chowk and Sadar Bazaar is the commercial heart of Jaisalmer, with many shops, restaurants, and hotels. It is a lively spot, close to the fort and havelis.
Sam Road. Sam Road leads towards the Sam Sand Dunes and is lined with desert camps and resorts. This area is quieter and offers a desert experience, though it is a few kilometres from the city centre.

Getting there and around
Jaisalmer is accessible by air, rail, and road. Jaisalmer Airport has limited scheduled flights, mainly from major Indian cities. The railway station is well connected to Delhi, Jaipur, and Jodhpur. Once in Jaisalmer, getting around is easy by auto-rickshaw, cycle-rickshaw, or taxi. The old city is compact and walkable, but the fort's steep lanes may be challenging for some. For desert excursions, taxis or organised tours are available.
When to go
The best time to visit Jaisalmer is from October to March, when the weather is cool and pleasant. Days are sunny, and nights can be chilly, especially in December and January. The Desert Festival, usually held in February, is a major draw. Summers, from April to June, are extremely hot, with temperatures often exceeding 40°C, making travel uncomfortable.
