Morbi is a Saurashtra city whose character comes from the Machchhu River running through its centre, crossed by the Morbi Suspension Bridge of 1879, and from heritage palaces, temples and civic buildings of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Riverside walks, the old Darbargadh quarter and the tile and clock workshops give it a distinct identity within Gujarat, even if most visitors treat it as a stopover rather than a long stay.

The hotels here cluster along National Highway 8A and Lalpar Road in the city centre, with others on Jetpar Pipli Road, at Pacific Business Park in Mahendra Nagar and on the Rajkot–Morbi Highway at Tankara. Morbi is connected by rail and road. Morbi railway station is on the Wankaner–Morbi line, with trains to Rajkot, Ahmedabad and other Gujarat cities. By road it lies on state highways linking it to Rajkot, Jamnagar and Ahmedabad, with buses and taxis available from those cities. For air travel, Rajkot International Airport is the nearest major airport, about 70 km away. Within Morbi, auto-rickshaws and taxis are the usual way to get around, and many hotels also arrange pickups. The city is compact enough that some areas can be explored on foot, especially around the riverfront and main market.

When to go

Morbi has a hot semi-arid climate, so the best time to visit is from November to February, when daytime temperatures are moderate and evenings are cool. March to May is very hot, with temperatures often exceeding 40°C, and the monsoon months of June to September bring humidity and rain that can disrupt travel. If you are visiting the tile factories, winter is also the most comfortable season for site visits.
