Why people stay in New Delhi
New Delhi isn't Gurugram — it's a separate city 30 km northeast that most Gurugram business travellers cross at least once. It matters here for two reasons: government-office meetings (ministries, embassies, Niti Aayog) that Gurugram-based visitors have to make; and heritage-tourism spillover for anyone extending their business trip to see India Gate, Humayun's Tomb, Old Delhi. Aerocity's cluster of airport hotels (Pullman, JW Marriott, Roseate, Andaz) is technically in Delhi but functionally an airport zone.
Base in central Delhi (Connaught Place, Khan Market, Jor Bagh) if government meetings drive your trip — you'll save 90 minutes of daily commuting versus staying in Gurugram. Base in Aerocity for pre-flight one-nighters and for the best luxury-hotel product in the region. Do not base in central Delhi for Cyber City meetings — 60-75 minutes each way is a bad trade. At 9pm, Khan Market's lanes are still busy — outdoor tables full, taxis queuing near the book and ice-cream shops — while Connaught Place's inner circle empties out except for the Regal cinema crowd and a few late kebab stalls near Palika Bazaar. Lutyens' Delhi itself, the bungalow belt around Prithviraj Road and Aurangzeb Road, goes dark and silent by 10pm; it is government housing, not a nightlife district, and anyone expecting Gurugram-style late bars in central Delhi will be disappointed.
This side-trip suits leisure travellers extending a Gurugram business trip by a day, and anyone with embassy or ministry appointments near Shastri Bhavan or Udyog Bhavan. It does not suit business travellers whose entire itinerary is Cyber City or Udyog Vihar meetings — for them, New Delhi adds a full day of commuting for no operational gain, and Gurugram's own five-star cluster on Golf Course Road already matches Aerocity's product without the airport-zone isolation.

Nizamuddin East, 30 km from central Gurugram. Open 6am-6pm, ₹40 Indian / ₹600 foreign. Best 7-9am for light and crowds. 90 minutes covers the tomb and gardens. Uber from Gurugram ₹1712 off-peak, 45 minutes.
Central Delhi 32 km from Gurugram. Bahri Sons and Full Circle for books, Perch or Amici for lunch ₹1426-₹2377. Best 11am-2pm. Politely upscale, safe, walkable. The Delhi that Gurugram consultants moved to Gurugram to escape but still visit.
50 minutes from Gurugram off-peak by Uber (₹2092). Real Old Delhi — Karim's mutton korma, Paranthe Wali Gali, Dariba Kalan silver market. Book a food-walk guide (₹2853-₹4754) for the first visit; navigate solo after.
The bar cluster at Roseate House (rooftop), Andaz (K3), Pullman (Honk) is Delhi's best airport-side scene. ₹1141-₹1712 cocktails. Best 7-10pm midweek; Fri/Sat gets aggressive Delhi-party energy after 11pm.
Lodhi Road, 33 km from Gurugram, free entry, open 6am-8pm year-round. Mughal-era tombs (Sikandar Lodi, Bara Gumbad) scattered through 90 acres of lawn. Best 6-8am October-March before the heat and joggers thin out; carry water after 9am even in winter.
Janpath near the India Gate roundabout, ₹20 Indian / ₹650 foreign, open 10am-6pm Tuesday-Sunday, closed Monday. Bronze and miniature-painting galleries are the highlight; two hours covers the ground and first floor. Skip the top-floor decorative-arts rooms unless you have time to spare.

Getting around New Delhi
From Gurugram Cyber City to central Delhi: 45-75 minutes depending on route (NH-48 or Dwarka Expressway plus inner Delhi), ₹1141-₹1902 Uber. Delhi Metro Yellow Line connects Cyber City to central Delhi in 50-70 minutes. Airport to Aerocity: 5-8 minutes. Aerocity Metro (Airport Express Line) connects to New Delhi station in 22 minutes. Once in central Delhi, the Yellow and Violet lines cover most heritage sites — Rajiv Chowk station sits under Connaught Place, Khan Market station is a 10-minute walk from the market itself, and JLN Stadium station serves Humayun's Tomb via a 15-minute auto-rickshaw ride (₹60-₹80). Metro fares run ₹10-₹60 depending on distance; autos and Ola/Uber are the fallback for anywhere off the metro grid, at ₹100-₹250 for short hops within central Delhi.
